Biography

I’m Brent Pierce, a Northern California based bluegrass musician, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist. Traditional American music has always been at the center of what I do. I grew up drawn to the drive and discipline of bluegrass the banjo rolls, the flatpicked guitar runs, and the call and response energy that makes this music come alive.

Banjo is my foundation, but over the years I’ve built my sound around guitar, Telecaster, dobro, mandolin, and steel guitar as well. Whether I’m playing hard driving traditional banjo or carrying a melody on electric guitar, I aim to honor the roots of the music while bringing my own voice to it.

I’ve had the privilege of recording and working with some of the finest musicians in bluegrass, including Cody Kilby, a two-time IBMA Guitar Player of the Year, and multi Grammy Award winner, known for his work with The Travelin’ McCourys, and Grammy winning bassist and Nashville producer Mark Fain. Collaborating with players of that caliber has pushed me to elevate both my writing and my musicianship.

My original instrumental work, including “Drunken Butterfly” and my take on “Under The Double Eagle” (composed by Josef Wagner), reflects my love for fast, upbeat, traditional bluegrass. I’m drawn to clean tone, strong rhythm, and arrangements that let each instrument speak clearly.

At the end of the day, I’m just a picker who loves the craft, the wood, the strings, the history, and the feeling when a band locks in. I’ll keep writing, recording, and carrying this music forward the best way I know how: honestly and with respect for the tradition.
